Match preview

Patrick Viera

Patrick Viera’s side will be looking to improve on their 12th placed finish last season as well as a FA Cup Semi Final place by starting the season on a high. They were able to get 4 points in both fixtures last season and will want to better that this season starting from now. They have solid pre-season games losing only to Liverpool and Manchester United.

Arteta

Arsenal enjoyed a return to Europe football last season and will want to do better this season by making the UCL spots. They have had a good pre-season scoring goals for fun and will be a force to reckon with if the pre-season form were to be considered. The Chelsea and Sevilla triumph showed what Arsenal fans will likely enjoy this season.

Team News

Odegaard

Crystal Palace have the duo of Sam Johnstone and Jack Butland out in the goalkeeping department which could see Vicente Guaita manning the post for their first game of the season.  James McArthur and Michael Olise are expected to miss out with groin and ankle injuries respectively and James Tomkins is also sidelined by a muscular problem. This could give new signing Doucoure a chance to get his first competitive start. Zaha, Edouard, and Ayew are expected to lead the frontline.

Arsenal also has their fair share of injuries. Emile Smith Rowe is out with a groin strain. Tierney, Tomiyasu, and  new signing Fabio Viera are doubts for this game. This mean Ben white could start at right back with Saliba, Gabriel and new boy Zinchenko completing the defense. Odegaard  is expected to start in his number 10 role and Gabriel Jesus leading the attack.

Crystal Palace possible starting lineup:
Guaita; Clyne, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell; Schlupp, Doucoure, Eze; Ayew, Edouard, Zaha

Arsenal possible starting lineup:
Ramsdale; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Xhaka, Partey, Odegaard; Saka, Martinelli, Jesus

Tip

It is a new season and every team want to start well. Crystal Palace performance last season was inspired by the likes of Connor Gallagher who is now back in Chelsea. Their preseason showed a leaky defense as they conceded 17 goals in 9 matches. That is not a way to start the new season especially facing an Arsenal team that scored 27 goals in just 7 matches.

The last 7 encounters at Selhurst Park have seen over 2 goals scored in all but 1 of those fixtures. This fixture reeks of goals and we tip a total of atleast 2 goals in this fixture.

Over 2.5 goals at 1.85 looks great.
