The English Premier League 2020/2021 title contenders

Tottenham Stadium

A previously published post on the top four prediction for the 2020-21 epl season seems to have gone into bin.

The dramatic performance of certain teams has shown that there is need to re-evaluate the prediction on who will win the premier league and teams that will make the top 4.

The previous post predicts the table to end as

  • Manchester united first
  • Chelsea second
  • Manchester city third
  • Arsenal fourth
  • Liverpool fifth

The above is not viable again due to performance of clubs like Arsenal, Leicester, Tottenham, and Manchester city.

Let’s take a look at the updated prediction of who will win the league and make the top 4.

Tottenham Hotspur – First

Tottenham are currently top of the table level on points with Liverpool and are good value for the league title. Jose Mourinho have turned the team around and they look to win their first league title in 60 years. The duo of Harry Kane and Heung Min Son are powering Tottenham to glory this season.

It’s just Game Week 12 but the signs are there for all to see. They have played Manchester united, Manchester city, Arsenal, and Chelsea this season keeping cleansheet in 3 of them and accumulating 10 points out of a possible 12.

Mourinho is in Spurs to win trophies and has rubbed that on the players who now play with a lot of determination never seen before. If it continues like this, Tottenham will be handed the title at the end of the season.

Chelsea – Second

Chelsea maintained their second position from the previous post.

The blues are currently 5th on the log three points off Tottenham who is first. Chelsea are doing fine at the moment and some injury concerns have limited their overall performance. The absence of Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech affected their performance in the loss against Everton.

Lampard just need a fit squad to challenge for the title which will be a close call with their North London rival Tottenham. The quality and depth in the team will see them beat smaller teams comfortably but might struggle against the big guns. This season is not Chelsea title year as the likes of Timo Werner, Hakim Ziyech, and Kai Havertz still need some blending into England life.

Second position is their best bet for now.

Liverpool – Third

Title holders will face stiff competition to reclaim the title they won last season. Jurgen Klopp will get punished for his lack of activity in the transfer window. He bought squad players and not players capable of creating something out of nothing. The recent injury problem ravaging the team would have been of less concern if they had quality replacement.

Liverpool currently lie in second position but that position is under threat when you consider their away form. Liverpool has won just 1 out of their last 6 matches on the road and conceded a huge 12 goals. They are struggling to win away and that will punish them at the long run. Trent Arnold is misfiring with 1 assist in his last ten premier league matches and Robertson fared slightly better with 3 in his last 12 appearances.

These are the main creators for Liverpool when you consider the number of chances and assists they raked in the past 2 seasons.

Andrew Robertson had 23 premier league assists in the past 2 seasons while Arnold had 25 premier league assists. This is where the problem lies for Liverpool and a huge reason that will see them finish third.

Manchester City – Fourth

Manchester City will get punished for their slow start to the season by ending with a fourth position. The inconsistency of Everton, Arsenal, Leicester, Southampton, and Manchester United will see Manchester city nick the fourth spot. They have lost just twice and with a fit squad available, Pep Guardiola can finally launch an assault on the top four.

This doesn’t mean Manchester City will find it easy with other teams. The likes of Everton, Southampton, and Crystal Palace are ready to provide stern competition for Manchester city.

Aguero fitness issue is another concern for Pep Guardiola who is with only one fit striker in Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian is trying no doubt but can’t be compared to Club Legend Kun Aguero who is more direct.

Aguero was missed in their match against Manchester united and is the difference between a win and a draw.

The likes of Everton, Leicester, and Manchester united can challenge for the remaining 5th to 7th spot with a hope of making Europa League.

I hope you like this post. Kindly share with others.
